Here we are, you and I, the road ahead long and winding,
My sun was up, hours ago, yours – just about rising…
To see this dawn, I have plodded hours and walked miles…
The journey ahead excites you, you are all smiles!
Your basket brims with gay frolic and fun stories
Mine is packed with caution, care, and a few worries…
Your sun was mine too, a long, long time ago,
With his sunset hues, he’s now ready to take a bow…
The dances with the flowers, the singing with the birds
Are yours to enjoy as you mingle with the herds…
You prance down the path, a song in your heart,
Flowery wings rush you on, giving you a gentle start…
When brambles bruise you and stones block your way,
I’ll be right behind, every step, every day.
My night draws near, my spirit is now weak.
I know very soon I’ll hear your voice from atop a peak…
“Mother of mine! I see new hills, new valleys, and new skies!
And look, oh mother! I can see my Sun rise!
Touching and beautiful Prabha.. The rising sun metaphor is very apt..
Thanks Rhea 🙂
My first daughter underwent a medical crisis recently; fortunately she is recovering well. The situation brought out some deep sentiments, which flowed out in the form of this poem.
lovely poem. i have only one child, a daughter… and indeed i am the past, she tomorrow. i hope your daughter is absolutely ok now.
Thanks Indrani 🙂 Yes she is okay now.
Very touching Prabha. Daughters are precious, a blessing. I have a teenaged daughter and I do realise that in a few years she would be treading her own path. Letting her go would be so difficult but at the same time watching her progress in life would bring the utmost happiness.
Glad to read your daughter is recovering well. Wishing her a healthy, happy life.
Thanks Durga 🙂
Cherish your moments with your daughter! These moments will warm your heart when you are away from her 🙂
