Tiger, The Beautiful Cat – A poem

Tiger tiger, O ferocious cat
Your gaze’s fierce, wherever you look at
A majestic stride with a royal demeanour
A beautiful creature, large one at that

An orange coat with black stripes
You own the outfit, carrying with pride
As you snarl on with your stout teeth
Your whiskers dance in a rhythmic beat

As you tread with your striped drape
Your tail follows like a superhero’s cape
A classic swag no one can deny
An attractive vision no one can escape

It is sad your numbers are depleting
The areas you roam are receding
Much is being done, lot more to work at
We can’t afford to lose you, O beautiful cat

  2. Thanks Indi. Was watching a documentary on the tiger recently. Felt why people want to kill such a magnificent, beautiful creature. Isn’t it better to admire beauty when it’s alive? Need to keep them safe in the jungles. Need to keep them alive.

    • true. our relationship with animals is pretty bizarre. we invade their habitat, then wonder why they’re getting aggressive. then kill them at will. of course, we kill big animals also to feel we’re powerful and there’s so much machismo in the whole hunting, shikar thing. recently a snow leopard was shot dead in a zoo because he escaped his cage after the staff left the gate open… not his fault, but dead he is. a lot of writing about that too. i just read he was born in a zoo… we’re turning the beings of teh forests into zoo dwellers, also for our fancy, nothing else. and we scream about our love for animals so very loudly and self righteously. oh well.

A much needed alarm for everyone di..Nice one?
Even the title of national animal too couldn’t help it..Some months before read a news article about how a tiger is threatening for the people in a village near forest..We’re apparently living by occupying his place..Where does we want him to go..It might be came for water as there is a pond..The officials said they would sadate him and would left in deep forest..we’re destroying his home and accusing him..I sincerely want the government and all people take things seriously in this matters..

    • Thanks Gprs. It is sad, how in spite of warning about all possible repercussions, humans continue to encroach on land that belongs to these beautiful animals. Earth belongs to every living being. But I guess, when people themselves are fighting against each other for a piece of land, the importance of animals who can’t talk the human language, takes a back seat. I am watching a show called the Wilderness Days on Epic Channel hosted by late Tom Alter, in which they show about wild animals in Indian jungles. Most episodes are on tigers, elephants, leopards. Quite an eye opener.
