It is always hard for a new mother, whose maternity leave is about to end and they have to go back to work. Not just them, it’s hard for every mother, who leaves behind their baby, to complete a chore or have to go out regularly for some purpose or another. It is never easy. The heart wails, not wanting such a situation to come. But then, they do come. This poem depicts the feelings of the mothers when they are at such crossroads.

You came into my life like a cute ball of feather
And hung onto me like a blanket of heather
But now this decision, how to make I don’t know
How do I leave and go, for a brief time it may be though?

On one side my achievements, ambitions and goals
On the other side, oh cutie pie, your presence in my folds
You complete my life, but I can’t let the other go
How do I leave and go, for a brief time it may be though?

You are so little, your little fingers and toes
Your cute little face and tiny little nose
Can’t stop looking – giggles, petted lip or angry brow
How do I leave and go, for a brief time it may be though?

You’ve learnt to laugh and hold my hand
Soon you will crawl and soon you’ll stand
Don’t want to miss any moment, any milestone as you grow
How do I leave and go, for a brief time it may be though?

You’ll play with your grannies, loved ones, near and dear
But when you seek me and cry, looking here and there
I worry for that moment, when I’m not always around anymore
How do I leave and go, for a brief time it may be though?
